Preparation for household waste collection
- Place your excess garbage in any plastic bag:
- Maximum 26 in x 36 in (66 cm x 91.4 cm);
- With a maximum capacity of 80 L;
- With a maximum weight of 15 kg.
- Close your bag with a knot or drawstring at the top of the bag;
- Place the label around the top of the bag, so that it encloses the bag, and stick the label back on itself;
- Place your labeled bag next to your gray bin, at a distance of 60 cm, in preparation for collection. Make sure the bag is not in front of the gray bin to avoid obstructing the robotic collection of your bin;
- Surplus bags will be collected at the same time as your gray bin.
Surplus Waste Assistance Program
The City of Gatineau is making available a surplus garbage assistance program that is aimed at two categories of eligible people:
- Large families (6 people or more) with low income (according to the low income threshold established by the Institut de la statistique du Québec);
- People with a medical condition that causes excess waste generation (e.g., incontinence or palliative care).
